A concise, spec-first checklist for architects and QS teams: the exact fire, slip, colorfastness, and sustainability data
you should request—and how to write them into a tender so the delivered boards match the promised performance.

Copo Surface ·

1) Fire Classification (Declare the Assembly, Not Only the Board)

  • EU/UK: reference EN 13501-1 class for flooring use (e.g., Bfl/Cfl/Efl as applicable). For balconies/roofs, require evidence for the tested build-up (deck board + subframe + membrane + insulation).
  • US: request ASTM E84 (flame spread/smoke) for the board and any additional assembly tests relevant to roof/terrace use.
  • Tender note: state “no substitutions without equivalent documented test reports for the full assembly.”

2) Slip Resistance (Wet) — Specify the Method & Target

Region/Zone Method Typical Target* Spec Tip
UK/EU (shod) Pendulum (PTV, wet) ≈ ≥36 (project dependent) Quote the exact board texture/emboss tested.
EU (barefoot) DIN 51097 (A/B/C) B or C near pools State test surface preparation and detergent used.
US (facility policies) Wet DCOF (procedure stated) Per owner standard Align with operator’s safety manual.

*Confirm with authority/insurer. Maintenance plan must support the target; see FAQ.

3) Colorfastness & UV Aging (ΔE Matters)

  • Request accelerated UV weathering with reported ΔE color change and gloss retention after defined exposure hours.
  • State the cap chemistry (e.g., ASA-capped) and cap thickness tolerance in the spec.
  • Include fade warranty wording in hot/coastal climates.

4) Recyclate Content & Sustainability

  • Declare % post-consumer / post-industrial recyclate in the composite core.
  • Ask for take-back / recycling options for offcuts and end-of-life boards.
  • Reference corporate pages: Sustainability · Why CopoSurface.

5) Subframe, Gaps & Drainage (Include in the Spec)

  • Joist spacing per the product datasheet; reduce spacing for diagonal/herringbone patterns.
  • Clip-controlled side gaps (≈4–6 mm) and temperature-based end gaps; maintain under-deck ventilation (≥50 mm) and free drainage paths.
  • Perimeter restraint and wind-uplift strategy for rooftops/balconies.

6) Spec Language (Copy-Paste)

Decking: ASA-capped composite boards, color ______, texture ______.
Provide written declaration of cap chemistry and cap thickness tolerance.
Fire: Provide EN 13501-1 class ______ (flooring). For balcony/roof build-ups, submit tested assembly evidence.
Slip: Provide wet slip test results via ______ method with target ______; results for the exact texture supplied.
UV/Color: Provide accelerated UV results with ΔE and gloss retention after ______ hours; include fade warranty terms.
Sustainability: Declare recyclate % (post-consumer/post-industrial). Provide take-back option for offcuts.
Subframe & Details: Joist spacing ______; side gaps 4–6 mm; temperature-based end gaps; ventilation ≥50 mm; drainage paths clear.

FAQ

Can I accept a different texture than the one tested for slip?

Avoid this. Slip values vary by emboss and finish; require testing for the exact texture to be supplied.

Do I need to name the subframe in the fire submission?

Yes—balcony/roof performance depends on the full assembly. Ask for drawings and a tested build-up.

How do I prevent substitutions after award?

Write “No substitutions without equal or better documented evidence for all listed criteria,” and enforce a pre-delivery sample sign-off.
